Meet Meghan Devine!
Hi All! My name is Meghan!
I’m so excited to be joining the team at Bud to Bloom Play Therapy because it is a friendly and inclusive space that welcomes all families! I love play therapy because play is the language of children. It gives them the words to express what they are going through.
My Approach to Child Therapy
I use a child-centered, non-directive style of play therapy. This approach lets kids lead and explore in therapy knowing they are safe and supported! I love collaborating with caregivers. I may know play therapy, but you know your family! We will work together to find what works best for you and your child. I enjoy working with kids ages 3-10 who may be struggling because of grief, separation anxiety, changing family arrangements, self esteem, or coping with neurodivergency. In therapy we will use non-directive play, creative arts interventions, sandtray therapy, bibliotherapy, and mindfulness techniques to explore presenting concerns and build skills toward increased social-emotional health.
Why I Love What I Do
I was drawn to social work and mental health counseling because I have always wanted to be a helper. I saw the impact the therapeutic connection had in helping people make positive changes and growth and it inspired me to become a full time therapist. Having a partner and many friends who are teachers, I first explored becoming a school counselor. However, when I discovered the powers of play for children in therapy I knew I had honed in on my specialty! I am looking forward to working in both clinical and school settings as a play therapist.
Families everywhere deserve support, empathy, and understanding to get through life’s challenges without judgment or shame. Being able to work therapeutically with families in the St. Louis community means the world to me. I’m drawn to working with kids because they can show you the world in a new light. Their insight and resiliency is inspiring! However, some of my most rewarding work has been with caregivers. Together we find insights, strategies, and skills caregivers can use at home to support their child’s growth in the playroom!
