Burnt and Blocked: Play Therapy Interventions for Parents Suffering Burnout

5 APT Contact hours (4 hours skills and methods 1 hour special topics)
Working with parents who are at their wits end can be a challenge, especially when their child needs their attention and connection. The workshop is for counselors and therapists that are looking for effective ways to work with families with burnt out parents experiencing blocked care. You will learn about blocked care and parental burnout and its impact on children and their attachment. You will learn and practice play therapy interventions to help support parents and foster healthy connection between children and their caregivers. These playful interventions will be great for families who have not had results with more traditional parenting advice and behavioral treatments. This training is beneficial for therapists working with children of varying ages with big behaviors.
Objectives:
Analyze the 4 types of blocked care that can occur with caregivers.
Describe appropriate assessments for child and parent relationships
List 3 play therapy interventions to use with children and families to foster healthy attachment
List 2 interventions that can be used to engage parents in play therapy process
Identify play themes and behaviors that signal blocked trust in children and adolescents.
